The time is coming up fast for the week that you want to honor the volunteers in your organization or events! The dates are set: April 6th thru the 12th 2014.
How can you express thanks to people who give their free time for the elderly for no monetary gain? Volunteers in this field are special and their service is invaluable.
Here are some ideas and links you can use to celebrate the people who offer themselves to serving others:
1) Depending the on the numbers that you have for volunteers, you can personally give them thanks through a personalized hand-written card or message. Since this is becoming somewhat of a lost art, it can mean the world to a volunteer just to know he/she is appreciated and valued.
2) Throw a luncheon or dinner for them – and, to make this concept more unique, you can choose the venue: it can be off site, or it can be right in the retirement community the volunteers serve in so the elderly folks they know can participate if they wish.
3) Have a giveaway for homemade prizes. Either you, the staff, or the residents can brainstorm and create your own homemade gifts. If you like, you can start with a theme such as Hawaiian Luau or Hollywood and work off of that.
Here is also a forum for people who have worked with volunteers, and they submit their ideas to thank volunteers:
Share your ideas! What do you think volunteers would want to see in their thank-you experience?
