The sun is shining, the weather is nice, and the birds are chirping…summer is here! The arrival of summer means more picnics, backyard barbeques, family reunions, and other seasonal celebrations. No matter what kind of summer party you’re gearing up for, it’s important to keep safety in mind. Here are 5 summer party safety tips you can use to make sure your celebration is the best it can be.

1) Stay coolSunburst Decoration

During the hot days of summer, heatstroke is a scary reality. If your party is outside, it’s important to provide adequate shade and places for guests to cool off. Have a large supply of water available. You could even hand out hats or fans as party favors.

2) Step lively

At outdoor venues, uneven ground could cause problems for older people, children, or anyone who is prone to falling. Clear away sticks and debris, mark holes and depressions, and offer assistance to anyone who needs it.

3) Don’t get burned

Whether you’re grilling up hot dogs and burgers or making s’mores at the fire pit, it’s important to practice good fire-safety habits to make sure no one gets burned. Always supervise children around any open flame and locate games and activities away from hot grills.

4) Keep food fresh

Summer parties are all about the food, and food safety should be a top priority. Have a big supply of ice on hand to keep cold food cold, and use slow cookers or insulated containers to keep hot foods hot. If possible, refrigerate perishables after everyone is served. Just be sure to let everyone know where the leftovers are in case they get hungry again later.

5) Watch the water

Whether you’re playing in a backyard pool, fishing from the dock, or taking a spin in the boat, supervise children and adult non-swimmers at all times. Monitor float toy use, and be sure there are enough life jackets on hand for everyone.

Fun is the name of the game for summer parties, and with a few easy safety measures in place, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy everything the season has to offer. Happy partying!
